Here, we’ll provide a list of valuable basketball cards and tell you why they’re rated highly. Some involve stars like Michael Jordan and Stephen Curry, so they’re certainly worth the paper. That said, the value of these cards often fluctuates over time. But that’s no problem, because we’ll share a few tips to help you stay ahead of the curve.
Different kinds of basketball cards exist, so it really comes down to personal preference. However, the most expensive basketball cards are sometimes also the most valuable. That means you should be willing to cough up some major paper to get hold of them. Fortunately, this is not always the case with the most valuable sports cards today.
Some may not be pricey but are still worth having because of what they represent. Below, we’ve divided these cards into two major categories. So let’s check them out:
Heads up! You’re going to see some very expensive cards on this list, but we’re not trying to break your heart. The truth is that just like the most valuable football cards, basketball cards have skyrocketed in popularity. And sometimes the more popular they become, the more they increase in value. Currently, the most valuable ones will often get sold for seven figures or even more.

Looking at the numbers, the basketball cards we’ve listed above are no doubt pricey. It’s a far cry from even the most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and that’s because basketball is a true cultural phenomenon. So what has made these cards so desirable and costly? These are the stories behind them.
The Upper Deck Exquisite Collection is one of the most desired basketball card sets ever created. This series often features premium designs, on-card autographs, Logoman patches, and limited print runs.
A card from the set featuring Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant sold for exactly $12.932 million in 2025. This was possible because it’s the only card in existence to pair the superstars side by side, along with their on-card autographs.
Our second pick is also part of the most expensive basketball card sets in history. This time, however, Upper Deck’s Exquisite Collection paired Michael Jordan with LeBron James. It sold for an astonishing $10 million in 2025 because it’s one-of-a-kind.
The combination of these two players is what makes it feel symbolic. LeBron is considered an unofficial successor to Jordan, plus the card has Logoman patches from both players and their autographs. It’s certainly worth the hype if you ask us.
The 2009/10 Panini National Treasures series is another desirable card set in basketball. As of 2021, an autographed Stephen Curry card from the collection was purchased at $5.9 million for a 51% stake.
Keep in mind that this is approximately half of the card’s entire value, and that says a lot. What really makes this card peculiar is that it has a photograph of Curry from his rookie year. His official signature on the card is also graded as Gem Mint 10 by PSA, which is the highest possible grading.
Upper Deck’s Exquisite Collection makes another appearance on our list with a card featuring LeBron James’s rookie photograph. By the early 2020s, when LeBron’s career was now set in stone, his rookie cards started getting a lot of buzz.
The 2003/04 edition Upper Deck Exquisite Collection LeBron card sold for $5.2 million and set a new record in 2021. It features a Gem Mint 10 BGS autograph grade alongside the rookie patch we mentioned earlier. For many of his fans, it’s an item worth having and keeping.
Luka Dončić was the Rookie of the Year in 2019 and was considered one of the NBA’s brightest younglings. His cards quickly skyrocketed in value following this milestone achievement.
By 2021, the 2018/19 Panini National Treasures Luka Dončić Rookie Patch Autograph Logoman sold for $4.6 million. It has a BGS 9.2 grade and a BGS 10 autograph grade and is considered a dream collectible by fans.
