Slot tournaments are a common promotion at online casinos and Sweepstakes sites, and I’ve participated in quite a few of these in my time.
Let me tell you – they’re much more entertaining and exciting than advertised.
When you join in, you get to play various quality slots (that you might not have heard of before) and test your competitiveness.
A bit of competition has never hurt anybody if it’s only for fun, right?
I always have a blast on slot tournaments, even if I don’t make it onto the leaderboard, which is why I wanted to bring the concept a bit closer to you.
So, let me break down how they work, how you can practice, and share some of my tips and strategies.
What Is A Slot Tournament?
Just as the name itself suggests, a slot tournament is a tournament in which you participate by playing slots.
All registered players at the slots casino online that’s running the competition are eligible to play as long as they meet qualification criteria.
To participate, you need to play any of the eligible titles for real money or coins.
Every tournament involving slots has eligible titles, and I usually find at least one of my favorite games among them.
However, sometimes, I’ve entered tournaments that only featured slots from obscure developers that I’d never heard of before.
Once, I also entered a themed Valentine’s Day tournament with slots that could only be considered vaguely “romantic” in theme.
These did leave me feeling a bit lost at the beginning, but I must say I still enjoyed trying out the random new games.
Slot Tournament Examples
Typically, you need to complete a certain requirement or hit a particular win to climb up a leaderboard and snatch the main prize.
Let me share some examples I’ve seen with you so you understand what you might have to accomplish next time you join a slot tournament.
- Most real money wagered.
- Biggest win per session.
- Biggest win from a single spin.
- Biggest prize multiplier hit.
- Most rounds played.
- Most free spins won.
- Quickest to trigger a bonus.
- Highest number of Megaways paylines per spin.
- Biggest win from bonus buy feature.
- Highest individual payout rate.
- Most bonus retriggers.
- Wager a certain amount to get a single prize draw entry.
As you can see, most of these are self-explanatory, so you shouldn’t have issues understanding them.
Let’s take the “Quickest to trigger a bonus” as an example.
Anyone who’s hitting the feature in the first few spins is going straight to the top of the leaderboard!
How Do Slot Tournaments Work?
From my experience, joining and playing in a tournament isn’t complex.
How To Enter | Automatic: Play any eligible slot to enter | Manual: Opt in before playing to make sure your wagers are counted |
How To Track Progress | Automatic: The casino automatically tracks your wagers and wins | Manual: You have to send in screenshots of your winning spins |
Where To Find The Leaderboard | Automatic: Leaderboard will be visible on an expandable window while you’re playing | Manual: Go back to the tournament page to view the latest Leaderboard stats |
For some, I’ve played the selected games and gotten automatically added to the leaderboard or else I’ve manually opted in. You just need to check the specific rules.
In most slot tournaments, the outcomes are tracked automatically with each bet that you place.
The leaderboard usually features the list of players who are participating in the competition, and I’ve noticed that the platform gives live results.
So, you can check your current position and potential prize whenever you want. It feels awesome when you see your name at the top but frustrating when you’re nowhere to be seen.
Some exceptions exist, too.
A more complex alternative would be casinos asking you to take screenshots and record your results yourself.
I have to say, those are some unlucky examples, and most things these days are automatic.
As for the leaderboard, it’s usually right there on the tournament’s main page.
At some casinos I’ve played at, they’ve even had an expandable window or sidebar that you can open while you’re playing the slots during the tournament.
I found this super convenient because I didn’t have to go back to the tournament page itself to check the latest standings every time.
To be honest, I’ve only seen this feature at European online casinos and not US online casinos yet, but let’s hope they catch on soon.
Most slot tournaments are monthly, but I’ve also come across some that have been daily and weekly slot races.
How I Practice For Slot Tournaments
Online slots are powered by RNGs, which means every outcome of every round is completely random.
As such, you can’t really prepare for them.
They aren’t like poker tournaments, where you can build your skills and increase the chances of winning.
However, you may use the casino’s approach to the tournaments to your advantage.
From time to time, online casinos announce the qualifying slots for a specific tournament in advance.
As such, you can play them or Google them before the tournament actually starts to get to know the slot a bit better.
You can learn how to trigger the in-game bonuses and get information on the hit frequency, bet limits, etc.
You can also see what other players say about the slot, ideally on a forum or on reviews and comments, to find out how people feel about the game.
The more you know about the title itself, the higher the chances of you ending on top of the leaderboard.
I also use this to pick titles I actually enjoy playing. Basically, if I know the slots beforehand, I tend to either choose the slot that’s going to give me the best chance at winning or the slot I find the most fun.
My Slot Tournament Strategy
Again, slots are games of chance, so there’s no specific strategy that you can use.
If I had a winning strategy, I would win prizes upon prizes by participating in slot competitions.
That’s not the case, and I can’t give you false promises.
However, there are a few tricks I can share, but remember that you need to be mindful of the tournament-winning conditions.
Low Volatility Vs High Volatility
Let’s say you participate in a tournament in which your score is based on the number of winning rounds or the most rounds played.
If I participated in that type of event, I would choose slots with a low volatility rate, like Starburst or Reels and Wheels XL.
Why? Because their hit frequency is usually higher.
Additionally, low volatility slots often have lower bet limits, which is another advantage, especially if your playing budget is small.
By contrast, slot races focusing on the biggest wins and biggest prize multipliers call for high volatility slots.
In this scenario, I wouldn’t expect many payouts, but the ones that do come should – at least theoretically – be epic.
One of my favorite high-volatility slots of all time is Cash Eruption.
How To Win In A Slot Tournament
As I explained, there’s no rock-solid winning strategy for a slot tournament. Luck plays a huge role, just as the number of other players trying to beat you.
Here’s what I do:
- My strategy is always to play games I like, carefully pace my wagers, and never lose focus on the competition’s goal.
- That said, I typically choose an online slot with a low volatility and low minimum bet. If these two are complemented by a high RTP rate, that’s the absolute jackpot for me.
- Remember that slot competitions exist to make you spend a lot of money or coins in a short timeframe.
- Keep track of your balance.
- Understand what the prize pool offers.
Judging from my experience, I’ve found it all too easy to drift off and overspend while chasing that top leaderboard position if I don’t constantly remind myself of my budget.
Calculate how much money you would approximately need to spend to receive one of the prize rewards.
If the prize is worth the risk, then go for it. If not, there’s really no point in chasing such wins.
I’ve been mortified when I’ve ended up winning less than I actually spent.
Slot Tournaments On Gamesville
There’s no denying that tournaments and competitions can be entertaining. You just need to remember that you’re participating for the fun of it.
Don’t take any unnecessary risks!
Unfortunately, our website Gamesville doesn’t feature any tournaments or competitions currently, plus all our games are free to play.
Some of our free online slots are ones typically featured in tournaments, allowing you to test the gameplay in demo mode.
For example, I’ve participated in several tournaments on NetEnt slots, and I often find casinos give free spins on their games, too.
And if you’re hoping for real cash prizes, then Sweepstake casinos are the best of both worlds.
They host various Sweepstakes tournaments, and they don’t require you to spend real money.
If you collect enough free Sweepstakes Coins and join slot competitions, you may end up with cash prizes without spending a dime.
Wow Vegas Casino often organizes slot tournaments, such as the popular Thursday Thriller.
McLuck is another excellent Sweepstakes Casino for running tournaments. Spins & Wins and Weekend Slots Spotlight are the two top events there.
As for the future, it surely looks promising.
What if I told you that Gamesville might hopefully soon offer free slot tournaments? But that’s all I can share right now!
So, all that’s left is for me to invite you to revisit our website often and stay informed about our latest updates.
